"Egg and Biscuit" is used as a food for young chicks in the breeding season and also as a tonic or pick me up for canaries at any time.
It is the MOST IMPORTANT item for rearing young canaries. Egg & Biscuit can be purchased as a dry food where you just add water and follow the directions on the pack, or it can be made from your own secret recipe.
The protein in eggs has a biological quality greater than any other natural food.1
If your birds are reluctant to feed the egg and biscuit to the chicks, add some Maw seed to the mix.

  1. Commercially purchased Egg & Biscuit should be made up as per the directions. This should be crumbly not sticky.
  2. It is important unless the directions say otherwise NOT to add more protein as this can prove fatal to young chicks.
  3. When making from your own recipe do NOT over do the Protein, as this can prove fatal to young chicks. ie don't double the Egg ratio.
  4. It is also important that when provided to the birds that it is discarded by you before it goes off, as bacteria is common in sour food.
  5. Once made-up keep refrigerated until given to the birds.
  6. Discard all made-up mixture if not eaten in 12 hours
There are many 'Bird Men' that will not give you their recipe for Egg & Biscuit. The following is a couple of different recipes.
